Aloha ALL,

To those involved in D42 State House race- thank you for all you have done to assist me and the residents of District 42 to vote.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

May I please provide you with a quick snapshot of the status on things?

I believe I lost because like I said to many in the media, was that in my door to door efforts, the same results were thrown at me often- "We know you are smearing Cabanilla and you should be ashamed of yourself."

They (voters) were referring to the three letters that Lance Arakawa wrote in 2006 smearing his wife after I had fired him- I summed it all up to the media thinking someone else would help me clear my name and expose Rida for lying- for my going door to door could not cut it alone...here is one of many attempts I believed was needed for the voters to get the truth that the media would not investigate-

OCTOBER 30, 2008 PRESS RELEASE

"State House Candidate Rida Cabanilla Thwarts Smear From Inside"

Soon after getting elected in 2004 to the state of Hawaii House of
Representatives to represent District 42 covering Ewa thru lower Waipahu, Rida Cabanilla hired a convicted pedophile (child molester), her cousin, son, and soon to be husband, Lance Arakawa.

In April 2006, Rida fired her husband for attacking her in public
smearing her name with all sorts of accusations. The two have been in and out of court countless times filing restraining orders against each other of which the latest, a three-year injunction granted to Rida Cabanilla on September 2 of this year, stood to separate the two during this year's campaign.

However, in two separate newspaper ads and various mailings to areas within District 42 throughout this campaign, the Friends of Rida Cabanilla purported a smear tactic had been leashed against the incumbent and inferred it must be from her opponent, Tom Berg, doing the smearing.

Facts are though, the very smear assaulted against Rida came from her own husband as is contained in three individual letters that were anonymously being circulated to voters that Lance Arakawa wrote in protest of his firing in 2006 demanding to be rehired. The termination letter dismissing Lance Arakawa from Rida's staff is on file with the State House Chief Clerk's Office.

Of significance, is the fact that Lance Arakawa hand delivered the smear letters against his own wife to many elected officials, community leaders, and the media and is now claiming he knows nothing of the letters he himself wrote in his attempts to get the three-year restraining order lifted against him per the recent ads paid for by the Friends of Rida Cabanilla.

Past staffers for Cabanilla being Jeff Alexander, Philmund Lee, and Tom
Berg, were all targeted by Lance Arakawa besides his wife in the three
letters and Arakawa was going to be sued by them for liable unless he
retracted the letters. The potentiality of a lawsuit being filed was
dropped due to Arakawa admitting the letters were fraudulent accusations and thus, Lance Arakawa signed a retraction letter to avoid the lawsuit.

Now comes 2008, and the letters from 2006 written by Arakawa to smear his wife for being fired have reappeared. Cabanilla, in her ads and mailings, took the path of rather than admitting the source of the letters, inferred them to be the makings of her opponent in a last ditch effort to save face. The ads and campaign literature put out by the Friends of Cabanilla illustrate a past wedding photo of Arakawa and Cabanilla with Arakawa signing a statement that he knows nothing of the smear.

Berg stated that he is not running to expose Rida's dishonesty, but hopes to offer the constituents real hope for restoring dignity back at the Capitol and return a course of action focused on the peoples' needs as opposed to conduct rife with personal conflict.

MAHALO,
